The District Orchestra

We started the District Orchestra in September 2011. Since then, over 400 children and young people have had fun taking part in our project. Once a week, the group meets for group lessons to learn rhythm, singing, or to play guitar, piano or another instrument.

At the moment, the District Orchestra is taking part in the “Music for all” project, and is also participating in the LebensKÜNSTler programme.

More about the District Orchestra

Music for everyone

At the start of the school year, musicians visit Year 3 and 4 classes in schools in Eichholz and do a trial workshop.  Children are then able to sign up to the orchestra, and meet every Thursday to make music together. All rehearsals begin by singing together, and playing rhythm games.

The first stage is the “Kaleidoscope”. The children get to try out different instruments over four weeks. Then comes the “Ensemble” stage, where everyone gets creative, developing their own small melodies and practicing pieces together. One Saturday will be Rehearsal Day, when children have more time to rehearse together, play games, and have lunch. Parents and families are invited so the children can show them what they have been up to.

The final stage is “Goes Culture”. The children go to a performance, and will also be able to present to the public what they have learnt; for example, in a festival in the district.

Rehearsal time and place

Thursdays from 14:00 to 16:00 in the Liebfrauengemeinde, Benzstraße, next to the church.
